giving COWP at kidding

I was reading the posting about pre-kidding checks etc. and saw mentioned giving COWP to the doe right at kidding.or right after.Anyway my question is why this practice is observed.Is it because the animal has gone through so much stress or for parasites?I have my first kidding ever coming up on Sept 12 and am of course a little nervous.I am sure I will have lots of other questions.Thanks all

I give it for both parasites and a boost in copper because we've had problems with copper deficiency due to the sulfur in our well water.
