Fat Goat?

Okay, so after my mishap with the scale and Hansel's odd weight, I am thinking maybe he is just fat. But how does one tell? I mean his sides are big sometimes, but someone told me that is jsut a sign of a good ruminet. He looks nice when he stands tall. How does one tell?

  • This is tough to describe, but I'll take a shot at it. You should be able to feel his ribs. His tail should look like a triangle when viewed from the rear and he is holding it above his back. If it looks like a rat's tail with no meat on it, he's too skinny, but if it looks like a sausage at the base, he's too fat. The rumen is on the left side, and it will only look big right after he's eaten -- and he'll be lopsided, because the left side will be bigger than the right side. After he's been hanging out, chewing his cud, the rumen gets smaller, and his two sides will look more even.
