Doe hates being closed in kidding stall!!!

Anyone else have a doe that freaks out when you try to shut her in a kidding stall??? She just cries and cries. It's day 146. I hate for her to be stressed out right now. Her sister is in the stall with babies next to her and is completely irritated by it. Just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and what they did??  I have a baby monitor on to hear if she goes into labor but all we hear is her crying! She is fine the minute I go out there or let her out. Spoiled! Urgh....

  •  Hej from Sweden !

That's great. I'm glad she finally settled down !

  • Well I am happy to report since her babies arrived Monday little miss drive me nuts is perfectly content in her stall with the babies :)!!! And i can relax a bit after all that comotion.

  • I started  a litle over two weeks before due date and started to give the goat some hay and a small amount of grain in the stall which is in the same building as the other goats.  There is slats in the wood so she can see all of the other goats.  I increased her time daily in the stall. She would want to go into the stall herself and when I started to see her drop, I left her in the stall.  She just kidded Saturday and is with her kids in the stall.  She seemed to like the privacy and didn't need to worry about another goat getting her food.  She seemed relaxed.

  • You never know. Some actually get quiet when they start pushing. I think it's a defense thing -- being prey animals, they don't want to attract predators when they can't defend themselves or run. Good luck! I know how that is when you have a goat that doesn't like her routine changed.

  • Yes she can see her sister and has everything she needs. Except for a person or the door open! She is a very personable girl and loves attention and her freedom too I guess. I did put a radio in with her. Seems to take the edge off a bit. She isnt trying to break the door down at the moment. I'm just hope hope hoping she gets it done SOON!!! I am actually a little worried what labor is going to be like :/

  • I'm sorry Kristen, but mine are all in the same large horse stall with panels separating them and no problems. They actually like the stall better than the regular house and pen? My biggest problem is the horses watching over the wall..better than a movie they seem to think? My 17 hand walker gelding loves, loves, loves kids!

  • Some goats hate any change at all in their routine, which makes for fun times in the summer when we're rotating pastures. They do get accustomed to their new place within a couple days usually. Can she see her sister? My kidding pens are separated with pig  panels, so everyone can see everyone else, so they don't feel alone.

  • Hej from Sweden,

Sorry to hear that she is so unhappy in her own"apartment" ! I don't have this issue since when my mothers were ready for some privacy, I just let them choose their nesting place and put back the slats so that the boxes could be separated. Each mother is now in her own "apartment " with her little family. Personally, I don't really understand the idea of a "kidding stall". maybe I have the concept wrong; what I think it means is to physically move a pregnant doe to a new place to give birth. I like my ladies to be as comfortable, and not be stressed out in a new environment. Maybe this is my thinking due to my particular housing layout, a horse stable.

I hope your doe settles down and get to the business of giving birth and giving you beautiful babies.

I hope others who use "kidding stalls" can chime in with some helpful advise!
