Clumpy poop

My goats have started to get clumpy poop.  Since its fall they have been eating tons of leaves, could this be it? No other problems in there behavior noticed.  If it is the abundance of leaves, which i can't do anything about, is there anything I can do to help it?

Thank  you!

  • Jackie,

I really thought there stool was like that because of fall and they were eating every leaf in site! From what I understand some larvae can go dormant....but to be safe, it cost me all of $17 bucks to get them tested.  They become immune to the medication, so you need to know what kind of larvae it is and if the medication is doing its job.  I did not notice any other problems with my goats.

  • What I am curious about is the occasional clumpy poop...not frequent, not even daily...eyelids pink...is that still a worm issue? And does that dratted worm go dormant in winter?
  • Thank you, got there stool tested and sure enough it was intestinal parasites, treatment already on board.

  • Clumpy poop is a classic symptom of intestinal parasites, usually barberpole worm, AKA haemonchus contortus. There are lots of posts on here about dealing with intestinal parasites, but you will probably need to give them a dewormer. You could take a fecal to your vet to confirm the diagnosis. Be sure to take fresh poop as the eggs can hatch fairly quickly, especially in a warm environment, and then the fecal would appear clean when it is not.
