CDT shot and limping

We gave our 7 week old little boy his CDT shot the other day. My husband was helping me and thought because the skin is tough to get through the harder he jabbed the better. Well the skin fold fell out of my hand and it looked like he was pushing it into the muscle.  Now my little man is limping and won't put weight on that  leg.  The site was the left leg right behind the elbow.

Has anyone had this reaction and do you think he hit the nerve or just bruised the muscle?  He is set to go to a new home in 2 weeks, and I don't want to give them a lame goat.

  • It's hard to say exactly what happened, but in most cases, they get over it within a day or two. Back when we used to vaccinate, I would give the injection over the rib cage for that very reason. There isn't much that can go wrong there. The only reason some people do it under the elbow is because you won't see the bump that usually comes up and lasts for a couple of weeks. That's totally cosmetic though, so unless you're showing, it's not a big deal.
