Anyone have advice on keeping a buck by himself? We had bought a wether to keep him company, but the wether cried all night when they were put together. He missed the goat girls he'd been living with until then. The buck is young, under a year, and had been with 2 does for month for breeding. Their indoor areas are close to each other and outside they share a fence.....

I'm not totally clear on how the logistics worked, but if you just bought the wether, he would be crying because he's in a new place. Actually, some kids put up a fuss if you just move them to a new pasture, so distance is not really a factor. I just moved two bucks away from does and put them with each other, and they've been crying their little hearts out. They'll get used to it. If your does are only a month pregnant, you could put both the wether and buck back with them for a week or so to get used to each other, then separate them, and it might go more smoothly.
How long did you have the wether with the buck? It seems like it would take him some time to get used to his new circumstances. Human kids cry when you leave them at daycare, but eventually they grow out of that and enjoy the company of the other children...
I would not say it is a good idea to keep him (the buck) alone, but if he can see and hear others most of the time it might be ok. if I were in your position I would seek out another wether to stay with him. Perhaps one that is used to hanging with the boys.
