we have a bottle baby who is now 2 1/2wks old. almost dead, tongue hanging out on day 1. raised body temp-took 6 hrs. began syringe feeding mother's milk, 1 oz at a time. by 4 days old she was drinking from a pritchard teat. by 6 days old, she was walking. still a little unstable, but walking was a huge deal! she still was only eating about 1.5 oz. at a time. by day 17, she seemed weaker, teeth grinding, not hollering as much, belly hard, didnt want to eat but wanted to nurse on anything she could. we gave selenium orally in a minute dose (2mcg), stopped milk and gave gatorade with caro syrup, did soapy water enema (in case of constipation). today she's really quiet, seems a little unsteady, but ate 1 oz of gatorade & caro this am. what else is there to do??? i'm concerned about her not eating as much as every chart we've seen says she should.

Hej from Sweden !
So sorry to hear you are having such problems. I hope you little one gets better. Stick with her.
after our 24hr gatorade/caro run, she's all good again! today she sucked down an oz of milk so fast, i had to make her slow down! walking is steadier and voice is definately back to normal! hardly grinding teeth at all. i will try the probios paste. thanks!
one thing we noticed last night...she had a rough, raised spot on the top of her head, right where her little round patch of hair is. last night she was scratching it and some hair came out. it doesnt appear to be ringworm. it was like a scab but just skin, no blood or cut. im putting neosporin on it to prevent germs but what could it be????
we've handraised many a baby and never had this type of problem
she's actually a pygmy so she's about 4lbs. she was up to 2 oz. four or five times a day. yesterday morning, first feeding of the day was her last milk. we stopped because she wasnt pooping good and her belly was really hard. that's why the enema, which worked well. she would start to eat then push it away continually. i was only getting a half oz in her on tuesday all day. she's been on the bottle since day 4, eating a little more each day. she seemed to have a belly ache. i was afraid of dehydration so thats why we started the gatorade and caro syrup instead of forcing milk, to give the gut a rest. she doesnt eat supplemental milk. it's her mother's milk. mom has another baby with her thats really thriving. no signs of illness.
Sorry to hear your little one isn't doing well. How much does she weigh? How much milk does she take? How long has it been since you've given her any milk? Why did you stop giving her milk? I don't understand what you meant by "didn't want to eat but wanted to nurse on anything she could" -- would she take milk in a bottle?
