bleeding1 week after birth

I know that does can bleed a bit for up to 2 weeks after birthing, but how much blood is considered normal and when is it a concern?  My doe kidded with 3 (2 bucklings and one tiny doeling who is doing well now) last Friday.  Today she started bleeding.  In the morning it was just spotting but tonight her whole rear end was bloody.  Other than that she is acting normal, alert and energetic.

  • That doesn't sound like a problem, but it is so hard to communicate this type of info via writing. Years ago, a vet professor told me that if a goat is eating, drinking, chewing its cud, and walking around, don't get too excited (worried). The fact that the doe is acting normally means a lot. If she were hemorrhaging, she would not be acting normally. Having had a goat die from a hemorrhage a few hours after birth, I can tell you that she was completely "absent" in her behavior. She just was not there. I thought something was wrong, but the vet assured me that she was perfectly fine, just mad at us. The doe had just had five tangled kids pulled, and at some point, her uterus was torn.
