Our goat is 1 1/2 months pregnant. Appears healthy and well in every way. Eating well, comfortable. The other day I went outside and in the snow were several areas in the snow that looked like urine w/ copper/red color. Our doe also has a slight pinkish string of discharge from her introitus. No more bleeding, no other signs of miscarriage. Does this sound like a miscarriage? (She had been feasting on branches of a redbud tree--could this do it??) Thanks.

I have no idea how much they gain. Good question, but I don't have a barn scale. Wish I did! Eight pounds sounds like a lot since the kids only weigh about 2-3 pounds each, but maybe it's because your girls are still growing? Looks like she swallowed a watermelon sideways sounds about right!

Thanks. Our goats LOVE evergreens and eat tons of them. The other goat is pregnant and doing great. Will keep an eye on this one and see if she goes back into heat. Our does are first fresheners--about 1 year old. They weigh 41 and 45 pounds. They each gain 8 pounds last month? How much are the girls supposed to gain in the pregnancy?? The one is 3 months now and looks like she swallowed a watermelon sideways. . . .

Yes, it could be a miscarriage, but I'm not sure if the redbud tree would do it or not. She will probably be fine. If she did miscarry, she will probably come into heat in about three weeks. The only plant I've heard of that supposedly causes miscarriages is evergreens, but I knew a woman from Virginia who laughed at that and said that if it causes miscarriages, she'd never have any kids. We used to have about 20-30% aborted pregnancies here until we discovered we had a problem with copper deficiency. They'd abort within the first six weeks or towards the end a couple weeks before they were due.
