Best clippers?

I hope this belongs here. I am in the market for my first clippers (I have show goats) and the good ones are too expensive to mess around buying a bunch to try them out. So, I'm asking for the benefit of your experience: which, do you think, are the best clippers for show Nigerians, and why?

Thank you!

  • I've always used Oster A5 and loved them. They do a great job. I use the #10 blade for the show clip. One blade will clip about 4 adult does OR 2-3 adult bucks before getting dull, so you will need to have multiple blades if you'll be clipping a lot of goats at a time. The blades will last longer if you bathe the goats before clipping. Dirt/sand/etc dulls the blades quickly.

I know a professional dog groomer who shows goats and she prefers the Andis professional clippers because it lighter weight.

The problem with the pet dog clippers (even those made by Oster and Andis) is that you can't get replacement blades easily, and they usually require a screwdriver to change the blades. They are not expecting you to be clipping multiple animals per day. They're made for someone clipping their one pet dog every couple months.
