Barn Cats and Nigerian Dwarf Kids

Hi! Do you know if anybody has had problems with barn cats after kids are born? We have four and I have been sleeping in the barn for 3 days. The cats have big eyes and have come into the goat pens. The mother goat hits them with her head, but I am concerned.

  • Bucks and does are just random. There's nothing you can do to have more does. If there were, we'd all be doing it! I have heard all sorts of theories about how to get more does, but I've never heard of anything that actually works.

As for quads, they should get more grain at the end of pregnancy if they're having quads, but the only way to know that is if you have a very good ultrasound tech. We did a few ultrasounds five or six years ago, and they had enough trouble getting it right who was pregnant or not. Forget telling us how many kids there were!

Glad your cats calmed down. Ours have never been a problem.

Is there anything special to do for quads? This is twice that Rosie has had quads and I hate it. She only lost one the last time. Also, we bought our first buck before breeding this year. Does the buck decide gender and what do you do if there are more bucklings in a breeding season then doelings? Do you purchase another buck?

We had 3 sets of quads this year and 2 sets of triplest and some twins and singles. Yep the quads are lively especially when you are trying ot keep track of who goes with whom. Have fun and take lots of photos.
  • I know. Rosie scared me so bad having quads, that I went paranoid. LOL Cats are all fine now. The momma goats hit them a couple of times and everybody seems happy.
