I acquired my two goats about 3 weeks ago and I tihnk I made a mistake. The seller/breeder may have not been on the level with me entirely, but I don't want to jump to conclusions. She told me that her computer was down and that she would mail the paperwork for ADGA registration to me, but I haven't received anything yet, nor am I having any luck getting her by phone or text this past week. I emailed her a few minutes ago, and I'm hoping she will answer.
Basically at this point, I'm considering the whole ADGA registration out the window. I bought from her specifically so I could pass along that ADGA registration assurance once I start breeding, so I'm a bit disappointed.
What I want to know is, is there a way to register my goats with ADGA another way? Are there some hoops to jump through to make it possible? Or perhaps I'm concerned about something that doesn't really matter at all?
Thanks in advance for your wisdom, y'all.

If you are just doing a transfer, I think that still has to be done with paper. But if you are registering a goat, you can transfer it to the new owner at the same time and have the registration mailed directly to the new owner.

Deborah,
How does one transfer registration on-line? I have a pin and an account with ADGA, but cannot find a place on the website for transfer of registration. Am I just stupid (yes!) or is the "new-ish" ADGA website making it too hard to find for a dunce like me?
Thanks,
Michael
If she sends you paper forms, you have to mail in everything because they need her signature. If she does it online, she has a PIN that she would use.
Thank you, Branden! I will keep reminding her. I actually think she is sending the paperwork to me, then I'm supposed to pay for the registrations myself (she advertised them as "can be registered with ADGA"). So do you guys think I could just take that info and register them online myself then? I guess that would probably depend on whether a signature is required or something from the breeder, I'm thinking, but I don't see anything like that on the form. If I can do it that way, I likely will.
Thanks Deborah! I was really trying hard not to be annoyed about this, but rather, to just accept it if it wasn't going to happen. Can't win em all, you know? But happily, she did text me today and apologized, and let me know that she would try to get it in the mail by Monday. I actually *think* she could be moving or something, so that would definitely be on the forefront of her mind more than my paperwork would. We just moved in October, and I truly understand how all consuming something like that can be.
Thanks again for your perspective, it really made me feel better being that this is my first time dealing with buying goats.
ADGA registration is much easier to do online, so that's how I do it. I get the buyer's ADGA membership number and also have them pay me the registration fee. I don't fill out the form until the goat is headed out the driveway. You have the option of having the registration sent to the breeder or the buyer. I personally always say to mail directly to the buyer. It usually takes only a week for that to happen. Paperwork is not always a strong point for some people, so hopefully she is just behind and not trying to be unethical. I wouldn't worry after only three weeks. I bought a pig in January and still haven't received the registration, but I just sent another reminder to the seller, and he wrote back apologizing and saying that he'd get it done.
The only way to get registered goats is to buy them from someone who has them registered, and then they have to transfer the goats to you.
