Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats

for people who love the littlest dairy goats

We had our first kids arrive during the Super Bowl and have begun the kidding season, and with that the awful task of disbudding. Many years ago I watched my first disbudding and it was not pretty. The kid flicked his ear onto the disbudding iron and lost most of his ear. Now before I disbud I cut an athletic sock and use the top part of the tube sock to pull the back the ears. I simply place it over the head and it extends over the ears and part of the neck. No more burnt ears.

That is a good idea! We did something similar last year when the temperature was 15 or 20 below zero, and the kids kept getting frostbitten ears.
