Hi Friends,  A feeding question...the 4 wethers came last week and took to the hay and the medicated feed well. I am feeding Kalmbach medicated meat goat feed and was planning on feeding for a couple…Continue

Kids and Minerals

Started this discussion. Last reply by Leslie Carion on Friday. 8 Replies

Hi all,  At what age do most kids normally begin licking from the free choice mineral feeders?  Mine 4 wethers are about 10 weeks old and I brought them home from the breeder two days ago. They are…Continue

Dry Lot Question

Started this discussion. Last reply by Deborah Niemann-Boehle Mar 28. 3 Replies

Hi everyone,  Could someone please explain exactly what  dry lot is?  I've read about them over and over but still haven't seen what that means exactly.  Our 4 wethers are coming this week and I've…Continue

"Thanks Tammy, that makes me feel better. We were getting some pretty good hay over the winter because it seems to be when I was finally getting the second or maybe even third cut for a short time...first cut seems to last an eternity here. The last…"

"I had a situation recently where my boys were consuming minerals like gang busters all of the sudden and it made me super nervous as well. It seemed that they were in need of something that wasn't available after the pastures died off for the…"

"It totally depends on how deficient they were in some minerals. In 19 years of raising goats, I have never heard of one overdosing on loose minerals. Have you actually been weighing the minerals?  Do you have only pet wethers? Why did you…"

"Hi again ladies!  I just came to post a question about minerals and I saw it fits in nicely to what Tammy was just saying about knowing what they need for minerals in this thread. I switched last month from Manna Pro to Sweetlix and I think my…"

"Thanks, Tammy. I'll get the hang of this in time, I imagine. I feel like when I was a new mother for the first time and was soley responsible for the little life in my arms, not having had experience with babies before. Do you offer them the…"

"Hey Ann Your vet has good reason for concern on the stones because they are the ones that get called for the emergencies and know how awful they are! I don't worry too much until they reach 5-6 months of age, which is when I pretty much have…"

"Hi Ann- what kind of hay are they getting? A large handful of grain twice a day doesn't seem like too much. I am currently feeding my growing kids around 1.5% of their body weight in grain daily. Which is about 1# of feed per 7 kids twice a…"

Feeding 12 week old wethers

Hi Friends,  A feeding question...the 4 wethers came last week and took to the hay and the medicated feed well. I am feeding Kalmbach medicated meat goat feed and was planning on feeding for a couple more months or until the 50 pound bag is finished, as Deborah recommends.  They have free choice Purina goat minerals and baking soda available.  Until I get the moveable pen assembled and out into the field, I have been bringing in dried leaves and grass a couple of times a day, both of which they…See More

"That's great! It always amazes me that these creatures know what they need and manage to find it and consume in just the right quantities. Have a great day and please keep us posted on their itchy status. Tammy"

"Hi Tammy. Just a happy note of relief.  This evening two other of the wethers went right over to the minerals and took some. I guess I just needed to post my question and have it answered :)  Thanks again."
