Baby aspirin for pregnant doe?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Deborah Niemann-Boehle Oct 20. 3 Replies

I forgot to ask on my last post about giving baby aspirin to a pregnant doe. I have heard 1 baby aspirin for every 10 lbs - but not sure if that applies to preg goats!

I have a seemingly very healthy pregnant doe limping on one of her back legs. Otherwise she is acting normal.I’ve examined her - joints move ok, not hot, no swelling, no wounds. I’ve actually seen…Continue

"That's great that you're going to do an ultrasound. That was going to be my next suggestion. I was chatting with a vet today, and she said she did a necropsy on a goat once that had a 4-year-old mummified fetus in her. She died from…"

"New news! The vet stopped by on her day off to check Ginnie again - without me asking! But- Ginnie saw her truck coming and we looked everywhere and couldn’t find her! After the vet left she came out from around the house - her brain is…"

"That's fascinating! I have heard of that happening before, but I still find it so weird that their body can encapsulate a dead kid and just keep going fairly normally. On the other hand, some does become septic and die within a couple of…"

"I found an awesome mobile vet- actually has goats. But not good news about my doe... She did a one finger vaginal exam and felt something sharp just inside the cervix. I felt it too and we both agreed it was probably a kid from last…"

"Some kids are just little piggies. If they're bouncing around and nursing, they're doing fine. They'd be dead by now if they weren't getting anything. I wouldn't worry about peppermint oil or vitamin C. If the udder has…"

"Hi- thanks for sharing. I was just "milking " to collect the colostrum. I know that never comes out as easy -but this seemed really hard to get anything. Since I wrote - a little change. I took before kidding and later yesterday udder…"

"Congratulations on a great kidding! It seems pretty early to try milking, only a few hours in. As you've noticed, you won't get a lot, and it's colostrum not milk, which is vital for little babies to consume. All best!"

"Some does will have edema when they freshen, so they'll feel really full, but you have trouble milking them. I've only had that happen once, and it was with a first freshener who turned out to be my best milker ever. Her kids had no…"

Freshened doe withholding milk?

We had babies at 2am this morning! Thanks to Deborah’s advice - I sat on my hands and witnessed the most perfect quick “ painless” birth ever!! This doe Maeyella is a second freshener and had the same success with her single buckling last year. But I’m worried -( because after all - I have goats I have to worry about something!:) even though I squirted out both teats to make sure there was milk right after kidding, I’ve only been able to milk about a cup of the colostrum from her.The udder still…See More
