Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats

for people who love the littlest dairy goats

Anybody want to give advice before I order tattoo equipment? Just thought I would see if you had favorites or stay away froms, or tips on your best results etc. I have ordered my disbudding iron and a bunch of supplies for milking etc. from both Jeffers and Caprine and expect it all in tomorrow. None to soon, since my kids will be a week sat. and I can feel the bucks we little horn tips. We were suppose to go pick up my prego doe sat. but had to postpone til this sat. because breeder had to work the weekend at the hospital which turned out good since Marley decided to kid. Now this sat. we are going to get her finally and bring her home. So we will have our first NDs very soon. Can't wait to see what she has and how many! I can't imagine what she will look like since she was so huge when I saw her 3 months ago and has had quads twice before. I am guaranteed to be a nervous wreck 'til she kids. And after...

I have a Q about the tattoo equip too! I put five characters in my tattoo #, and now I can only find tattoo pliers with four slots. So what does that mean!?

Get the tattoo pliers with the quick release! Otherwise you are peeling all those needles off the ears of squirming, kicking, screaming kids, and it ain't fun! I was always afraid one of them was going to get an ear ripped, but thankfully it never happened. You do have to squeeze really hard with the quick release to make sure all the needles go through, but it's worth the extra effort because the needles just pop right off!

You could tattoo twice -- do four  then the last letter. Personally, I'd have my tattoo changed to something with only three letters.

Oh,thanks so much, that is really good to know! I will definitely do that. Best to you hope all goes well! Take care!

Rachel, I was also thinking, you might have a little challenge fitting five letters into a kid's ear. I don't think the registries charge for a new tattoo sequence, especially if you tell them that you haven't used the one yet.

Rachel, you can find a 5 digit tattoo plier at Hoeggers (#5K-12) if you need. It has an ear release also.

Thank you, Amy!! I need to look more closely at how the will fit on a tiny ear.

Rachel, I do wait until they are at least 2 months old. That way I have enough ear to work with! I have 4 letters and have to be so careful that the last letter is placed properly.

I keep glancing over this, and thinking that I still am not seeing the SIZE DIGITS you all are using on these little ones. Although there is so much good advice here I would venture to say that everything else is covered.

This is what I have:

It uses the 3/8" tattoo pliers.

I just reviewed my tattoo information, and I didn't get five letters in my tattoo... but I'm still super confused about how to go about it! lol I need to tat the gals Ginger had, and register them...

What are you not clear on?
