Question about confirmation

This doeling I retained has a short neck! I didn't realize this until she had gotten bigger (she's 4 months old now). She's also quite fat. Is her short neck a big fault in a dairy goat? I guess it's the "dairyness" feature, right? Her mother has a nice slender very dairy neck (see pic). She otherwise seems to have a nice confirmation.

  • Okay, I appreciate the response! I won't worry about it for now but this pic isn't the best and her neck really does appear short compared to the other kids her age. Hopefully it will stretch out as she grows. Maybe it's just extra fat that makes it look short since her brother in the buck's pen doesn't look short at all? She has rolls of fat around her neck lol.

  • The top picture looks more like she is pulling her head back. I wouldn't say she looks that bad in the second one. When kids are young, they go through all sorts of stages ... gorgeous, awkward, beautiful, questionable ... which is why it drives me nuts when people expect you to give them an idea of show quality with a kid. I have a finished champion doe that got last when she was shown as a kid, and I've had kids get a junior leg only to be horribly disappointing when they freshened.
