Possible Eye Infection?? I'm new to goats please help

I'm not too sure, but my doe has been having eye buggers in her left eye the past few days. At first I thought nothing of it, maybe she got dirt or something in it. But now it seems to be irritated, and the bottom lid is red. No puss, or discharge of any kind, but was wondering if a round of antibiotics, or is saline eye wash can/should be used. I grew up in an area where goats and chickens were kept in the zoo, I've had 2 goats for 2 1/2 years so still am learning, just never read or talked about eye issues before. Thank you for your time.

  • I just went through this with my 3 month old baby. She had a teary eye and sometimes wouldn't open it. This went on for 3 days. I was really worried. I had someone help me hold her and used some sterile eye wash to wash her eye-- thinking there might be something in it. I couldn't see anything in there but it was definitely irritated. The next day her eye was completely normal again!! I guess there must have been something in there and the eye wash washed it out (whew!).

  • I have had a goat that backed into barbed wire and cut her utter to a 5" gash.  It was not pretty and a goat get pink eye.  I used colloidal silver on both and healed the pink eye in 2 days and the utter was healed in 4 days.

My son George cut his knuckle all the way to the bone and had the whole back of his hand blood red and swollen with infection.  I was afraid it would get blood poison but I soaked a cotton ball with colloidal silver and taped it to his injury then kept it wet with colloidal silver.  The cut was healed in 4 days and could hardly tell he had such an injury.

My cat came home with her eye ball almost hanging out because she had gotten into a fight with something.  Her eye brow was gashed open.  I used colloidal silver on her and in 2 days it was almost completely healed.  So please try this on your goats eye.  I'm sure you will be surprised.

  • I use colloidal silver in my animals eyes.  It works fantastic.  I had a goat that contracted pink eye and I just sprayed colloidal silver in her eyes and in 2 days is was all gone.  I use it on all my animals for cuts and so on.

My son George was grinding something with the grinding stone and hit his knuckle on the pointer finger.  He went all day and didn't treat it.  When he got home it was so infected he really should have gone to the hospital.  You could see his knuckle through the cut flesh when he moved his finger.  The whole back of his hand was beet red and swollen with infection.  I treated his hand with colloidal silver several times a day for 4 days and on the 5 day there was barely a mark on his knuckle where he injured it.  I soaked a cotton ball with colloidal silver and kept it wet. It is the best stuff on the market.

  • That makes sense, they have been eating around our driveway a lot lately, and it a long gravel/dirt road. I will replace their hay though just to be safe, but it has rained today so that should help also. Thank you so much

  • When a goat gets an eye infection the eyeball turns blue. The eyelid should be red and means the goat is not anemic. A white eyelid is bad. Sounds like there is just too much dust -- perhaps in the hay or straw or if you live on a gravel road?
