Moringa..

Does anyone have any information regarding the use of moringa as a feed option for goats?  Is it safe for them?  I am growing my own for personal use, and have read that it can be fed to cattle and the result has been an increase in weight gain and higher milk production.  This wasn't my intent for growing my own trees, but I was curious if anyone had any information about it.  Thanks ladies.

  • I plan on doing that in the spring anyway, as I am building Hugelmounds on my crappy land!  It basically is a working compost pile..  Comfrey is good for wounds, it's a cell regenerator.  My plan is to grow comfrey and purslane, and it's great to know at least that comfrey is good for the goats!  Moringa is high in protein and packed with minerals and vitamins, and is also a water purifier, but I don't want to introduce it to my animals unless I know they will be ok..  Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it!

  • I can't comment on Moringa, but I do know that comfrey is excellent.  High protein content, better feed than alfalfa, and I have rad that it increases their milk production.  That said, I can't confirm that sine my girls have not been in milk since I started feeding it to them (does anyone on the forum have any experience to relate here?).  I can tell you that they love it!  Also comfrey has the added benefit that it is excellent for the soil health, pulls minerals, is an excellent fertilizer.  It is also supposed to be a soothing salve but I don't know much there.  Anyway, plant comfrey - just plant too much as it grows very vigorously.
