We are milking two ND does and are thinking of buying a buck (or two). We had heard that having a buck nearby can affect the taste of the milk? Is that much of a concern? And if so, how far apart would we need to keep the bucks from the does? Thanks! - Quincy

The buck has to rub on the doe to affect the milk taste. Whenever we breed a doe, she is always the last one to get milked that day, and we just give the milk to the chickens or pigs.
Hi, I'm new to keeping a buck, but I'm pretty sure that the does would have to make physical contact with the buck for it to affect the flavor of the milk. As far as how far to keep them apart, goats have been known to breed through adjoining fences so I'd say at least a foot apart. ;-)

My girls and boys (one adult and two bucklings) share a fence line (not ideal for reasons Julianne said) and it hasn't affected milk quality.
Last year, I had a buck living with my milker while she was pregnant and there wasn't an issue with the milk at that time either.
Maybe number of bucks is a contributor to whether or not milk is affected?
