These are my 3 bucks who are living together-- ages 7 mo, 10 mo, and 14 mo. They all have lost the hair on the tips of their scrotum and one has a pretty nasty-looking sore on his. The one with the sore I have been putting tea tree oil on it for a week or so but I can't tell if it's getting better. I thought maybe a fungus? What do you think? Any advice for how to treat it? The one with the black balls used to be all black but got like this over the last few months.

  • I have seen that a lot in my bucks -- what looks like the bottom of the scrotum is kind of dry and/or scabby. I've never done anything, and it's never gotten worse. Goat Medicine says it can be caused by quite a few things: mange, bacterial infections, zinc deficiency, and frostbite. However, other than the frostbite, I would expect to see symptoms of the other things elsewhere on the body also. Some of my bucks were zinc deficient a few years ago, and they had bald patches on other parts of their body.

  • No prob!! I can't really catch my boys without getting SUPER smelly... but if I could, I would think tea tree in some coconut oil would be at the very least, soothing. It can't feel good. lol

  • OH I'm so relieved. Thank you Rachel!

  • My bucks both lose the hair on the end of their scrotum during rutt. All that urinating on themselves burns it off. I don't put anything on it, and they go back to normal after the season is over.

  • Anyone?
