I am new to Nigerian Dwarf Goats. I have 2 bucks and 1 doe. Currently, I have had one doe and one buck together in the same pen since mid Oct. hoping for breeding. I have not seen them do the deed. The doe is 1yr, 2 mo. and the buck is 1 yr, 1 mo. old. They share the same sire but not the same mother. Any ideas on how I should proceed for now? When should I take the buck out of the pen? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

When I pen breed, I rarely see them actually mate -- maybe one out of every five does. A heat cycle is three weeks, so if she's been in there since mid-October, she's probably gone through two or three heats, if she didn't get pregnant the first time. Odds are very good that she is pregnant. She will probably kid five or six months from mid-October, so she could be three months pregnant already. I'd remove the buck at this point. If she's not pregnant, it's not going to happen with him. If she doesn't kid by summer, I'd try the other buck.
