Barn doors for new barn

We are building a new small barn from our small herd are finalizing the drawings.  I am curious to know what kind of doors have worked well in your barns?  The door is an exterior door from the goat stall to outdoors.  I'd like a top hinged sliding barn door, but husband is concerned that it won't hold up to the goats when they are frisky and want to escape.  Hinged versus top sliding?

  • If it is one sliding door, and you can lock it, it should work fine. Two sliding doors that meet in the middle are not really stable enough. Goats can push them open.

  • I LOVE the sliding door we built. It saves precious space in our smallish enclosure. Our two don't seem to feel the need to try their strength against it. The door itself is pretty darned heavy (made from found 2x6s) and we also installed a stay roller (I'm copying a link to the roller we bought).

    Good luck!
