hairy issues

Yesterday I noticed that Juniper is growing a beard! She looks so cute with her whiskers. I wonder why Pokey isn't growing one, considering he's the boy. I guess it's hit and miss. He sure has the full neck and shoulders hair that intact bucks have, though. I just can't get over how soft and lush their coats are. I'd always imagined goats having coarse coats, probably because of my previous experience with those poor pitiful petting zoo goats.

Juni is getting leggy now, finally. Just in time, too, if she is pregnant. Need to have room for the udder!

  • Thank you Deborah, that's good to know. I remember the breeder I got my goats from said that all her does had beards, but the babies kept biting them off! LOL

  • Almost all does grow beards, although they are much thinner than mature bucks. By the time a buck is 2-3 years old, they have a very full, bushy beard. Wethers tend to be rather sporadic. If they get a beard, it's more like  a doe beard.
