I'm looking for advice on getting my la mancha does pregnant with a ND buck. I'll try just about anything at this point, since one of my girls will be three next summer and (if she gets pregnant)…Continue

Thanks that helps. I start seperating kids and dams at 10-14 days. But I also don't wean until at least 3 months and sometimes longer. Can you tell I'm not a big fan of having to milk twice a day? :)

I am not on test this year, but have been for the last seven years or so. I did separate my kids, but not for 24 hours. I would separate them for about 12 hours, take what I thought was representative and then let them finish the doe off for a half hour or so. Then they'd be separated again for the next 12 hours.
I wean my kids at 8 weeks. By that time the milk is not an important part of their diet, though the socialization time before that is very important. My kids start spending some time off their mothers within a couple of weeks.
Each person has to decide what they believe is right. There is no "udder police," with any test, so the results are what you decide you want to report. No one is going to check up on you. Hope that helps.

I heard back from her. The instructions say even if the doe is nursing to "just take the kids away for 24 hours". I'm guessing this is designed to be done only with older kids? I can't imagine not giving a kid under two months old access to their dam for 24 hours.

It may be getting sucked into her spam file. She'll be looking for it now. Thanks Pat

Thats the same email address I've sent the requests to before. But I'll send another. Maybe the 3rd time will be the charm. :)

Jane, I just heard back from Barb. She doesn't have any record of getting your email, so there must have been a cyber-mix up. Contact her at and she'll get right back to you.

FYI: I still haven't heard back from cornerstone farm on the Ruminations milk test. I emailed them on 2/15 and again on 3/21.

Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the recent issue! Love the pictures you chose for my article, and all of the cute random photos sent in my other people. Also enjoyed the informative articles!
Thanks for all the hard work!

Seems like I remember reading something about the Ruminations Milk Test that Jane just mentioned, but I don't remember now. Could you post info about it? Maybe put it in a discussion forum above (on this page), so it doesn't get lost on the wall as the conversation moves along and comments disappear.
