I've got my goats!!!! I'm posting this from my mobile device. Were on our way home right now. They're cute and funny and they've already won my hubby over - or at least the does have and he's open to liking the bucks eventually too! :D of course I'm already quite smitten! I'm super excited!!!BTW do any do any of you ever feed orchard grass pellets? Just wondered if I could use it occasionally instead of hay?
Of course, I have other does that settled, (the one that just kidded) that didn't look different at all, so I think it's a crap shoot as far as being a predictor. Probably one of those things that means something if it's combined with other signs. :)
Ya and I'm sure it was just me but I had a hard time seeing much when she was not in her and I still can't see much. I suppose she's not pregnant. :( I know she was bred multiple times throughout her heat but maybe she didn't take. Guess I'll watch her really close over her next projected heat dates. If she was in heat last time it was early and we missed it. Entirely possible since I came down with a bad cold right then and my husband was taking care of the goats.
Well, I've heard that too, but never seen any good pics of what exactly that looks like. I can say that one of my does that is settled definitely had changes to her vulva. Which reminds me. I need to take pictures. lol
Thanks Rachael! It's been a lot of fun having goats! My husband has totally fallen in love with the does! :) I'm still waiting to see if Cayenne is pregnant or not. Someone told me that you can tell by whether their vent points up or down. Do you know anything about that?
It's important to encourage your goats to drink water! They don't like cold water so heated buckets helps but on cold days I take them a bucket of the hottest water out of my tap. They see me coming with the bucket and are at the gate before I can get there. They suck it down like they've never had anything so good! Some people put in a little molasses or apple cider vinegar but my milking doe won't drink it with ACV in it so I give it to them plain.
Thanks, Julia! I'll be go into town in a couple of days and I'll check into what our local TSC carries. Right now my goats are more interested in the dried weeds and grass in their pens than anything I give them. BTW do goats drink much or just a little when it's cold?
Myra, I just realized I got the chopped timothy hay at my local feed store (Southern States). TSC has a chopped blend of timothy, alfalfa and molasses and my goats eat it, but they don't like it as much and it's definitely richer. I am willing to give it to my bucks and does right now because of the extreme cold, but I prefer to give them the timothy chopped in general as I'm concerned about my bucks and dry does having too much alfalfa and molasses. If you have a local feed store you might be able to source this great chopped timothy.
