Hi guys,
I have someone asking me to disbud a month old Nigerian buckling for her. I haven't seen him, she describes the horns as 1/4-1/2 inch at most. I am afraid he is too old? Never done one at this age? Should I do it?

Okay. Deborah that's basically what I said to her- that I was afraid I couldn't safely do it at that age. I advised her to take him to the vet and see what the options were there. I just wanted to be sure I wasn't being ridiculous but it sounds like a legitimately bad idea. Thanks!
Of course, it's a matter of what you feel comfortable with. I've had people ask me to do that, and I've said no. I was worried about possibly killing the kid from overheating the brain because I knew it require a long burn. And it wouldn't look good. Scurs would be guaranteed.
I've never disbudded at anything more than buds... so I personally wouldn't do it if they were past that stage... but you might need to look at them. Bucklings tend to grow horns pretty fast. I would be surprised if they were that small at a month.
