A Tip on disbudding

We had our first kids arrive during the Super Bowl and have begun the kidding season, and with that the awful task of disbudding. Many years ago I watched my first disbudding and it was not pretty. The kid flicked his ear onto the disbudding iron and lost most of his ear. Now before I disbud I cut an athletic sock and use the top part of the tube sock to pull the back the ears. I simply place it over the head and it extends over the ears and part of the neck. No more burnt ears.

  • That is a good idea! We did something similar last year when the temperature was 15 or 20 below zero, and the kids kept getting frostbitten ears.
