Hi Holly! Welcome to the group! I'm so sorry you lost your first kids. They may have died from hypothermia, which is very common when kids are born unattended when it's cold out. They could have also died from suffocation if the bag did not break when they were born. Yes, the mamas will break it, but the umbilical cord breaks as soon as the kids are born, and the mama may not get the sac off their nose fast enough for them to be able to start breathing. My #1 suggestion for everyone is to have a baby monitor -- yes, just a $20 baby monitor from the store! You'll be able to hear when the other doe is pushing, so you can get to the barn to get the kids dried off and warmed up. If you have any questions, feel free to post in the forum.
