I love it when I realize how smart I am!

OK. So it's the Saturday after payday and I have not been able to figure out a solution to my mineral problem. So as I am doing my goat chores today before work I suddenly have a stroke of incredible smarts!

I don't know how to express to you how little David likes to spend. If there is a cheap solution we have to find it...There has to be some medical condition that forces this level of thriftiness...

I was getting ready to give up and order the little mineral buckets this morning,… Continue

The goat update!

I got their registration forms in the mail today, but the breeder forgot to sign the transfer portion, so I sent them back, but hopefully I will have them back to send off to NDGA by Monday or Tuesday. I talked with the registration office and they said it will take about a week for me to get the papers back from them. I am also sending in the membership and herd name application. Hopefully we will get our first choice! :) If the parents are only registered with NDGA it looks like I won't be… Continue

Goat Walk

Because we have a lots of acreage we really want the goats to benefit from the variety of good browse available. The adult goats won't walk up the hill without getting spooked and running back home. Because that involves crossing the road I am not too keen on that. They also are not inclined to jump into the back of the jeep for a ride to the top of the field that edges the 42 acres of woods.

The little ones are small enough to pick up and load and don't mind a jeep ride!…

My first week with goats

WOW, What a week!

DAY 1: We went to pick up the goats in the evening. We couldn't find anyone with a dog crate, and the only kind we have is made of nylon. So we just covered the back seat in towels. It took us a while to catch them, but once we did it was a quick transaction, and I did not get kicked by that stupid horse again. Which is good...It took them a few minutes to settle down once we got in the car. I sat in the back with them and petted them while David drove. When we… Continue

They must think I am filthy rich!

Now I know fencing is never cheap, but this is just ridiculous. I have been looking at feed lot panels like the ones WG4 has and in my area they are between $50 and $90 each! I looked online and found some for $19 each. What I find amazing is that for one foot less height wise they are $16 online and $22 in the store. I will eventually need 3 pens and MAYBE 4. If I buy all the panels together online they are cheaper even with shipping! Has anyone had success with 3 ft high fence? Or should I… Continue

I am WAY too excited!

I'm getting goats! I went to a not to far away farm where I found out they were selling some bucks. From the e mails I thought they were adults but they are kids! Mom, Dad, older sister, and a few others were there. I was able to inspect everyone based on the advice of my new mentor, and I have decided to bring home the two bigger boys of the three. And according to my mentor I got an excellent deal! I could not sleep last night! I am keeping an eye out for some good does, but I… Continue
