Tammy Gallagher replied to Maggie's discussion Parasites and weight gain
"You are so very welcome! Just keep a close eye on them. If anything else changes in addition to being a little under weight, or if the weight does not improve with the grain addition, it may be time to consider de-worming ;) Tammy"

Tammy Gallagher replied to Maggie's discussion Parasites and weight gain
"Hi there Maggie! Are the does in milk? If so, they should be on grain in addition to the alfalfa pellets and hay. If they are not in milk, grain is certainly a good way to get them back to correct body condition. Also- do they get loose GOAT…"

Tammy Gallagher replied to Meme's discussion Parasites?
"Hi Meme I'm so very sorry that you are dealing with this. I would add a second dewormer class and you want to be sure that you are using the appropriate dosage based on an actual weight of your goat. Since you gave Safeguard, I would also give…"

Tammy Gallagher replied to Debbie Hinton's discussion Food Aggression and Housing
"Hi Debbie- There is always a king (or queen) of the castle. It sounds like you are already on the right path to figuring this out. It really is an exploration of what will work, for you guys, in your situation. Multiple hay feeding stations is…"

Tammy Gallagher replied to Philip Hopkins's discussion New Bucks
"Hi Philip. Congrats on your new bucklings! This is actually a little complicated to answer =/ LOL... so I'll apologize for the book now! 1)Worming- you should never de-worm any goat just because. That is the fastest path to de-wormer resistance…"

Tammy Gallagher replied to Rob's discussion Stubborn goats
"Yes- I unfortunately had 2 kids die within a week of each other from lack of water consumption after they were weaned from the bottle before they had learned to drink water from a bucket. They were my first goats, and I just assumed they were…"

Tammy Gallagher replied to Maggie's discussion Doe rebred too soon
"Hi Maggie! It sounds like you are doing everything right! I would definitely keep her off the grain as this can sometimes create BIG kids that are difficult to deliver. Just keep an eye on her overall appearance. I know it is not optimal, but many…"

Tammy Gallagher replied to Philip Hopkins's discussion Underdosed-what to do?
"Thanks for re-posting those! I would keep a close eye on Eve and Dawn. Cocoa looks great. I think once you have seen a truly white 5 and an unmistakable blood red 1, it is much easier to feel better about when to treat the in between scores. I also…"

Tammy Gallagher replied to Philip Hopkins's discussion Underdosed-what to do?
"Hi Philip! I know that Deborah has back to back calls for most of the day, so I wanted to pop in here. I am sure y'all will cover all of this info in your chat too. A FAMACHA of 2 isn't typically treated, but certainly warrants watching if…"

Tammy Gallagher replied to Maggie's discussion Penis sticks out of sheath
"If it were me, I would have a vet take a look at that. It may be the angle of the photo, but it looks huge compared to the normal tip of the penis, and I do not see a urethral process. The anatomy just does not look correct. Has it always been that…"

Tammy Gallagher replied to Jocelyne Bourque's discussion no stand-no milk
"I'm going to see if Deborah has any other wisdom to add to try to get her up on the stand. I have Nigerians, so it is easy to just pick them up and put them up there when they are first learning, if they wont go up on their own. You may end up…"

Tammy Gallagher replied to Jocelyne Bourque's discussion no stand-no milk
"Hi there Jocelyne- I've never bred a goat that delivered a single, so I do not have experience to share with early milking of a newly freshened doe. Since my girls have always given me multiples, I start milk sharing at 2 months of age and by…"

Hi, Tammy. Good to meet you. My family has a small homestead in the Texas Hill Country and we raise a herd of 4 Nigerian Dwarf, 1 Boer, 1 African Pygmy and 5 Nigora Goats. Four of our does are currently pregnant, three of which are for the first time, and all due this April. We survived the recent snow and are excited for Spring. I am happy to be here with all of you. Thank you for the welcome.
