Vaccinating

Morning All,I have chosen this year to not vaccinate my herd but I have several people who are having kids and want the kids vaccinated with CDT.  What age and dosage can I do this for the kids?  I for some reason have 2 and 6 weeks in my head and the normal dosage of 2cc but please correct me if I am wrong.Thank you all for your time with this.See More

"Wow! I don't know why I never saw this when it was originally posted. How is it going now? If you don't strip out the last bit -- OR if you switch to once a day milking -- the results will both be reduced milk supply. I'm not sure why…"

"Thank you Jess.  That is pretty much what I started with yesterday.  She seems calmer today being milked in the evening only."

"I would keep her feed quantity and schedule the same.  That way, if she calms down and you can start milking in the morning again, you won't have to change her routine back and forth."

Milking once a day..

HI everyone,Needing some advice with a First Freshner.I have sisters who kidded first time this year, both gave me twins which was lovely. One doeling has taken really well to milking her sister is a whole other story.  I have managed to milk her with a Henry milker but she is not happy about me hand milking the last bits out.  I have a stool under her to stop her from sitting but she still climbs the walls of my milk parlor with her back legs.  Funny to watch but not very productive.  But the…See More

"I continue to breed does until they are ten years old and have never had any problems. I did breed one doe for the last time when she was 9, but that's because she always had a hard time keeping weight on when she was in milk."

What age to stop breeding?

My Elly will be 9 this coming January and we usually like to kid in March.  I have had some say make this her last year but then I have read a few things that 8 is a good age to stop at. Thoughts on this would be appreciated! Elly is in good shape, kids well, is driving our buck mad when she comes into heat! So not sure if I should or should not push my luck with her! Thanks in advance for any advice! :-)See More

"Thank you for this! Thaw is slowly starting but we still have a good couple of foot of snow before we see any mud.  Everything in the goat house is clean and I will move her into the kidding pens in the next few days."

"Technically, the plug is there to keep bacteria out, so there is a theoretical risk of infection, but assuming you're not living in mudville (like some of us are about to enter here), it shouldn't be a problem. If you are in the midst of a…"

"I'm guessing that you're having trouble finding info on this because it's not normally a big deal. The plug doesn't usually come out until after birth when you first try to milk the goat or when the first kid nurses. If you are…"

Waxy teat

Hi everyone,Our doe is due to kid as of this coming Friday (this is her third kidding) and I have just been to feed all the goats and put them all in for the night and I noticed a little amount of wax from her left teat.  This is first time I have noticed this over all her kiddings.  I know this is normal but my question really is for information on how early does this normally happen before goats kid?  Her udders are not yet full and her ligaments are still in place, she is eating well and…See More
