I'm trying to decide what I would describe my buckling's coloring as... he is mostly a reddish roan/ brown, with white markings, and the black markings that a chamoise would have -black underbelly,…Continue

"The goat standing is a broken chamoisee (or maybe chamoise, because they spell it differently if it's a buck or doe). On his papers I'd write ... broken roan chamoisee with frosted ears and muzzle and broken belt.  A buckskin has a…"

Color Description

I'm trying to decide what I would describe my buckling's coloring as... he is mostly a reddish roan/ brown, with white markings, and the black markings that a chamoise would have -black underbelly, legs, and dorsal stripe. I would call him a broken buckskin, but he looks to red roan in my opinion (of course, I'm a newbie so my opinion doesn't count for much LOL). In the pictures he looks a little more brown. What would you (any of you) describe his coloring as?…See More

"How neat! I know her mother doesn't have any... she's a buckskin, but her father is also gold like her and I believe he may have moonspots. I guess I'll know for sure if any of her kids turn out moonspotted!"

Lil replied to Lil's discussion Breeding age for doe?
"Thanks so much! That definitely makes sense. I have a doeling that will be 9 months in November, and I'm hoping she'll be at a good weight then so I can breed her. If not, I'll just wait till next fall. "

Deborah Niemann-Boehle replied to Lil's discussion Breeding age for doe?
"A doe should be about 2/3 of their adult weight before being bred, so I shoot for 40 pounds since most does are about 60 pounds when mature. I bred a lot of does that age through the years, and they all did fine, so size is really most important. I…"

Deborah Niemann-Boehle replied to Lil's discussion Bucks in Rut
"Since NDs are not historically seasonal breeders, they are not in rut like the large dairy breeds. They do get more stinky in the fall and tend to fight more in the fall, but they can breed does year round. Not all ND does come into heat year round,…"
