Specific mineral requirements for ND's

I am looking for some sort of chart or list that indicates what the ideal mineral requirements are for ND's to better assess whether the feed and loose minerals (and certainly the pasture/browse in…Continue

Goats got into feed!

Went out to the barn to milk this evening and discovered many of them had gotten into the feed room!  Not sure how they got in (probably let in by our clever and sneaky wether) nor how long they were…Continue

"Copper in feed should be 35 to 40 ppm, according to a researcher at Texas A&M I spoke with several years ago. In minerals, copper sulfate should be around 1500 ppm +/- 300 ppm. If you have sulfur, calcium, or iron in your well water, however,…"

Specific mineral requirements for ND's

I am looking for some sort of chart or list that indicates what the ideal mineral requirements are for ND's to better assess whether the feed and loose minerals (and certainly the pasture/browse in my area) are meeting the needs of my herd.  As an example, you look on the feed bag and it says that it contains 5000IU/lb of Vitamin A, but not knowing exactly how much Vitamin A the goat should get, you don't know if you are providing a sufficient amount.  The same thing can be applied to copper,…See More

"I am so sorry! There isn't really anything that can be done to correct the situation. The standard advice is to put the kid down. This happened to someone on here a few years ago, and they waited until morning to take the kid to the vet. It…"

Kid born today without an anus - help!

It appears that one of the triplet doelings born this afternoon to my first freshener does not have an anus.  She was the first kid born and it was immediately apparent that she was small and scrawny, but she did stand and nurse after a good cleaning by mom.  I know she cannot survive this way, but I am at a loss of exactly how to handle this.  Do I: take her to the vet to see what if anything can be done (guess what I'm thinking is possibly complete intestines, but failure to open at the…See More

"Yes. You do need to toss their milk. What drug is in the feed? You can check the farad.com website for drug withdrawal, as that's the first place I'd check, and I won't be back online tonight."

Goats got into feed!

Went out to the barn to milk this evening and discovered many of them had gotten into the feed room!  Not sure how they got in (probably let in by our clever and sneaky wether) nor how long they were there, but 8 goats can do significant damage in 3 minutes so the mess in the room was no indication of time spent there!  The only feed that they could get into was the kids' feed which contains a coccidiastat that I know the milking does cannot eat.   I need to assume they did.  I will be watching…See More

Need help with my little buckling

Have an 8 week old buckling that wound up having surgery for an undescended testicle last Monday (he was sold as a wether).  The surgery wound up being a little more extensive than expected as the testicle was quite high. The vet said to expect him to be pookie for a couple of days. We checked his incision, temp, eyes, etc....all looked good....eating and drinking some when encouraged to do so, but not as vigorously as usual.  Mostly he just stayed by himself either standing up against a wall…See More
