Breeding gone bad!!

My goat Zara went into heat today, so I debated whether or not I wanted to bread her yet.  She will be a year old in March, but she's pretty good sized.  She has great length and width and she seemed…Continue

"Burn?  Do remember, the tarp will not burn so you must make arrangements to have bag large enough to hold it after it is folded back on itself multiple times to take it to the dump."

"That is a great idea! I would do that and then I would burn it all. Burning is what I have always read about CL. The tarp would be perfect to use!"

"Another thing you might want to do, is do all your butchering/processing on a tarp that you can throw out. That way, no blood, etc. gets into the ground."

Bred my doe

Posted on September 25, 2011 at 8:28pm 2 Comments

Well today we were cleaning up after breakfast and I hear this monkey like noise coming from the field.  So I go to the window to see my buckling going nuts and my doe who is 18 months old was totally flirting by the fence.  Her tail was wagging at a fast rate and she just couldn't keep her body off the fence.  So I went down and removed my wether from the bucks field and put her in with him.  She stands for him and needless to say we are going to have babies the end of February!!! I'm so…

We decided to cut a feed out of our babies eating schedules in hope that they will start to eat more grain.  Only 1 is eating consistently and the other 2 just nipple.  All they want is milk.  They are acting like I am killing them today. LOL  They are standing by my door just crying and crying!!  Millie the oldest and the one eating a lot of grain is much bigger than the other two.  She is a few days older than Jasper so kinda wonder if its because she was on goat milk till last Sunday.  Or… Continue

Our adventure

Posted on May 11, 2011 at 9:30pm 2 Comments

Starting this new adventure has not been easy! We started out with two weathers.  The one got really sick 2 days after we bought him, then got the other sick.  The other one who got sick ended up dieing of floppy goat syndrome.  We treated him with heavy pepto bismal, but he was just so weak he couldn't fight it.  We lost him Easter morning.  The first week of ever owning goats and we ended up with 2 very sick guys and loosing one.  Felt like a goat mamma failure.  The breeder was awesome…

We've been using the Rhinehart X30 with the regular tip for eight years and love it. The pygmy tip is too small. In fact, the regular tip isn't always big enough for bucks!
