A Year (and a half) in Review

Bought the kids July 2015. Bred Mira January, first travel and goat-sitters March, babies June, learned how to milk, sold babies August, started playing with chevre and cheddar, built cheese press, rigged a sort of cheese cave, expanded goat yard, added more play structures for the goats...

...and I keep putting off the eternal question from Willow, "Can I keep another doe next year?" I keep waiting for the proverbial bloom to fall. I waited to see if she'd get tired of the constant…

Deborah Niemann-Boehle replied to Negan Wright's discussion Geeze Lady get out of my udder! Pregnancy 360
"Goats come into heat every 21 days +/- a couple of days, so if she was in heat every 15 days, she was short cycling, which means she would have been unlikely to get pregnant, and if she did, some of those heats you saw were false heats, meaning she was not actually ovulating. She obviously did not get pregnant Oct. 15 because she would have kidded last month. If she's living with a buck, you really have no idea when she got pregnant. If you're worried that she hasn't kidded yet, I wouldn't be.…"

My ND is about a year old give or take a month or two. We are empty nesters and I needed a " baby" life hack... Get a goat! We started with Oggie. Oggie got bored of the the dogs keeping him company when I went to work. So we bought him a girl friend. I'm not to new at goats as we always had a mini farm growing up but I have never seen one birthed. Fast forward, over several months ago I seen Oggie (ND buck) and Saphie (ND doe) breed. Luckily I had the sense to write it down. I hadn't seen them…

My first ND is Oggie, or as I call him, my ogga ogga myster. The second is Saphie, such a little lady but not scared to put the dogs or cattle in their place. Thes…

With so many great breeds of goats, how can you choose which one to breed? Why not get started with two or three breeds? In this video, I'm talking about the challenges of having more than one breed on your farm, especially breeds of different sizes.

Tammy Gallagher replied to Asia's discussion Scurs and Horns with Attitude
"Hi Asia
For the question about scurs- they will likely get knocked off. Sometimes they bleed and sometimes they don't. If they bleed it is usually not nearly as bad as it looks and no intervention is needed. I have noticed with my guys that the more they get knocked off the less they grow back and I've had bucks who eventually did not grow them back at all. They are all a little different. For the horns with attitude. Asking how to curtail this behavior is a question that we answer quite…"
