for people who love the littlest dairy goats
Welcome to Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats, the online community for people who love the littlest dairy goats! Please take a moment to read this welcome message so you can more easily find your way around the site and start interacting with everyone.
What should you do first? We hope you'll introduce yourself in the "Forum." There is a link for "Forum" at the top of the page. If you click on it, you will see a list of featured discussions, as well as a list of categories for discussions. Click on the "Add+" button, which is directly under the picture of the goats walking along the fence. An empty window will open where you can type in your introduction. Tell us about yourself, your farm, your goats, and your goat plans! We also love to hear how people found us and why you decided to join. If you have a website or blog that is goat related, feel free to tell us about it and include a link.
If you have a pressing question you'd like to ask, the "Forum" is the place to do it. Some people aren't sure whether to post in the "Forum" or "Blogs," but the "Forum" is definitely the place to post if you want to ask for advice on a particular issue. If you want to post a funny story about what one of your goats did or what's happening on your farm, you can put that in "Blogs" section.
When putting a title on your "Forum" posts, be sure to give it a name that is descriptive of the message. Don't use things like "Questions." Use a title that narrows it down like "Deworming kids" or "Is my doe in heat?" and then give us as much information as you can when composing your post. Be sure to include the goat's gender, and if it's a male, tell us if it is a wether or buck, and if it's a doe, we need to know if it is pregnant or in milk, as well as the age. A question as simple as what to feed a goat will have several different answers depending upon the goat's age, gender, and kidding and milking status. It is also helpful for us to know where you live because pasture in Illinois is different than Arizona, and "cold" in Florida is very different from cold weather in Sweden! That also means you need to be specific when talking about weather temperatures. So, tell us anything you think might be relevant!
If you want to post photos or videos, click on the "Photos" or "Videos" tab at the top of the page. You can also share photos and videos in a "Forum" post, so if you have a question that can more easily be explained with the inclusion of photos or a video, then include them in your post. The "Photo" section of the site is for posting a photo that you simply want to share of your beautiful goats or awesome barn design or something that you can explain in a sentence or two.
If you would like to see where some of our other members are from, and visit their websites, you can check out this page:

Everything you post on here will also wind up on "My Page," which is your own personal page on here, and there is a link for that at the top of this page.
If you are wondering where to start reading, check out the "Featured Discussion" here: http://nigeriandwarfgoats.ning.com/forum/topic/featured These posts include answers to some of the most commonly asked questions on the forum.
Keep in mind that forum members are just goat owners sharing information and our experiences. This should not be a replacement for professional veterinary advice or assistance, even though a couple of our members are vets. Your own vet would not attempt to diagnose or treat an animal via email because it is impossible to fully understand a situation when you are not right there with the animal.
If you have any questions about how to use the site, type it into the comment box below.
Have fun!

I was not aware of a way to do it, and I've asked Rachel, who is our techo-go-to-person, and she said the unless you know HTML, you can't do it. In other words, Ning doesn't provide a way for you to do it.
I swear I looked everywhere to try and solve this myself...how do I add a personalised footer to my forum posts? Thanks!
If you click on "give a gift," you'll see some little decorative things that you can give to other members -- like a little picture of a birthday cake or flowers. You are charged "credits" for them. To see if Ning has given you any credits, check the bottom of your "Settings" page. They used to automatically give everyone some free credits when they joined, but I'm not sure if they're still doing that. You can also buy credits.
There are a couple places to check to make sure you get updates.
For updates on the message boards, visit the forum:
http://nigeriandwarfgoats.ning.com/forum and scroll to the bottom of the page. Click on FOLLOW.
Next, you can check your personal settings by visiting your profile:

In the right sidebar, click SETTINGS. Then in the left sidebar, click EMAIL. Make sure the boxes are checked for all the emails that you would like to receive, and then click SAVE at the bottom. I hope that helps!!
I have not changed anything. Ning must have. A couple months ago, I realized that I was not receiving emails about new posts myself. I couldn't figure out what to do, but Rachel helped me out. Part of the problem may be that since I own the site, I have different control panels than members, but I can't figure out what needs to be changed for you. I'll ask Rachel if she can help out! Also, I did respond to the comment on your page, but you're probably not even getting notifications of those and didn't check before posting here. I have no idea why the change happened. Sorry!
