Hello All,

My name is Jason and am new to NG goat keeping. We recently picked up a couple of 10 week olds. My barn is 8' x 12' with a reclamed bunk bed in there for the kids. My question is where and how do you store your alfalfa/hay that is not being used. Do you keep feed available throughout the night in the barn for them to eat? Can I store a bale in the barn or is it a hazard?

Thank you all

Jason

  • I love your use of the bunk bed. I bet the goats love being able to climb up there!

Ditto on what Naomi said about the goats soiling the hay if they can walk on it. It's fine to leave some in a hay feeder in the evening.

  • What an adorable little house! Best wishes with your new venture.

It seems like they'll be able to climb all over the hay and soil it, so they probably won't want to eat it for long.

We do let them have hay overnight, but only as much as they're likely to eat. Because they appreciate fresh hay, we scatter any leftovers on the floor, morning and evening, refilling their feeder each time.
