Weight Loss

I'm not sure what to do, I have a 2 yr old who is starting to get thin. He's also has some hair that comes off when you gentle pull on it. This has never happened before.

He does spend a good part of his day laying down, he was brought to the Vet a little while ago because we noticed that he walked funny. The Vet took ex rays and told us that most likely he was born with this problem. He's knees don't line up the way they should. But now this weight loss and the hair is really concerning me. What should I be looking for ? Should I take him to the Vet  ? Help !

  • yay for Moose! I noticed a red skin spot on my doe the other day - I put Ivermectin on  a cotton ball and rubbed it really good.  Her appetite has greatly improved!

I agree, he is so sweet!  He looks like he is saying, "wow, I had a rough day!" :-)

UP Date, My goat ( Moose ) is doing much better. I clipped him , gave him a bath and treated him with Eprinex. That seemed to do the trick. I really appreciate all the support this web site offers. Thanks

  • LOL - the hair clippers for people work ok - and are much cheaper than the fancy ones you see in Hoeggers.

Just dont share that you used them on the goat...... LOL

  • If they're for hair, they should work fine. Not sure if a shaver or a beard trimmer would work. If you're using your husband's hair clippers though, you really want to be bathe the goat first! :)

Thanks for all the advise, I just love this site. I'm still learning and it's nice to know I have a little support. Oh, one more thing do you think I can use my husbands clippers ? LOL

  • That sounds like good advice! I would definitely start there!

  • Worms and lice would be my first two guesses. A lot of people mistakenly think that a single animal in a herd won't have lice, but it happens. Shaving him down will take care of the lice. You might just want to take a fecal to the vet before spending the money on a visit.
