vaccine reaction??

I vaccinated 6 kids 3 weeks ago for CD&T.  I checked their sites a couple times the next week, no problems, they each had a small lump at the injection site that I understand is normal.. I  Checked the injection sites again a couple days ago --they have a slightly larger lump with a big scab that appears to have been draining.  My question;;should I discard that vial of vaccine and purchase a new one (expiration date on it is 2016) or use it ?  Seems odd that the vaccine would cause such an ugly reaction.

Also-- one of the same kids had diarrhea 2 weeks ago that we assumed was coccidia--we treated with Dimethox and it cleared up quickly.  Could that diarrhea been a symptom of vaccine reaction?

  • I've never heard of a reaction that severe either. I'd probably toss the bottle. You never know if it was left unrefrigerated or somehow mishandled in the supply stream from manufacturer to store.

As for the diarrhea, if you didn't do a fecal, you have no idea what caused it.
