Hi. My doe who is 11 weeks fresh now has had her kids removed to a separate pen but where she can see and hear them (bucklings). She has been milked every morning for almost 2 months and has been a willing milker-- until NOW. Now she yells for her kids, kicks my hands away, tries to lie down and won't even EAT as if she's taking a stand! This is day four of not having the kids on her and I have been persistently milking her all the way out but it is VERY difficult. She's usually okay for about the first half of the milking and then as if she wants to save the rest for the kids, she starts kicking my hands and trying to lie down. I talk to her soothingly and try to calm her down and I'm hopeful this will get better soon, but any tips would be greatly appreciated!

  • I just found this blog when I was trying to figure out how to use velcro to hold her back feet down since last night she stepped into the bucket in her effort to get my hands off. This blogger uses velcro on one of her does (see pictures) to get her to hold still-- looks like an awesome fix! I'm going to try it and I'll let you know if it helps!

  • I agree with Rachel;  just keep keeping on.  I've had the exact same experience with one of my does.  In fact, as soon as I sold her kids, she wouldn't get on the stand at all.  I had to carry her there.  It didn't last too long, maybe a week or less.  Now she's great.  Best wishes! :)

  • My best advice is stick with it!! Sounds like you're doing things right to me... my stubborn milker did the same thing, even though her doeling wasn't close enough for her to hear her (she now lives several neighbors away, and I live in the country) She eventually came around. I swore she never would, but she did.
