Strange nesting behavior....

well.....on my part not on my does part.  She is due today.  Yesterday I started thinking about how to take care of all the little poop piles in her pen.  The pen is roughly 500 square feet, and so far housing is just 2 large dog houses and a tarp.  I kept thinking about what DH said to me regarding the amount of poo created by two adult ND's....that they each will make about as much as our golden retriever.  Of course, I try to get out there and pick up that dog poop about once a week...so why would I just leave all the goat poop there to break down?  But how to pick up all those little pebbles, I pondered?  The answer?....shop vac, my best friend!  I use it to clean out the goldfish pond and my car, so why not suck up those little pebbles?   I needed something to distract me from the goat NOT kidding yet, so I got out my extention cord and sucked up the manure.  It was PERFECT....and I'm sure it also was entertaining for my neighbors.  Occasionally,  I had to stop and clean out sticks and moss that plugged the opening of the hose, but in a matter of a few minutes, I had cleaned up 85% of the poo in the pen.  Plus, I had it already neatly contained to carry to the compost pile!  Since I already had ShopVac  out, I also cleaned out the fish pond and discovered that my two brown goldfish once again survived a winter of complete neglect in the bottom  of the muck (the orange ones get eaten within a day).

  • Great idea for the outside area!! I use deep litter method in the barn... so I don't think the hay would help with the cleaning... lol
