Strange appendages growing on kid

There are some strange appendages growing on our 3 ½ week old buckling kid (he’ll be a wether). I first noticed them when he was almost a week old. They are on his underside in his upper rib cage area near his front right leg. The largest one is almost an inch and is long, right next to it there is a smaller one and then one smaller than that. They are each long and narrow with thick firm middles and a crusty tip. His belly is hair is almost all white except for the spot where with the appendages which all have long black fur covering them. The thing that worries me most is that they seem to be growing and nearby them I’m feeling what seems like another one starting to grow (feels like loose skin that is starting to pouch out and elongate but doesn’t have the firmness of the others and was much smaller a couple days ago when I first felt it.

  • I would think that "upper rib cage area" is on the chest/belly area. I was thinking extra teats, but that would be on the chest. Are they on his side above his legs? Are all of them on one side of his body? How far apart? Could you explain this a little more? I'm having a hard time picturing what you're saying.

Sorry I couldn't make out anything from the pictures.

  • Thank you! I'll attach some pictures but it's hard to see anything since they are covered in hair. Our local goat vet said wattles would be behind the legs (on the chest/belly area). I don't have experience with wattles but my understanding is that they wouldn't continue to multiple like this or have crusty tips...?

  • They are most likely oddly placed wattles. From Countryside Daily,

Sometimes there are “misplaced” goat wattles on parts of the body other than the throat, latch or neck where they are normally seen. These misplaced goat wattles also seem to serve no real function.

“We purchased an Oberhasli doe kid with her mother at the Roseburg Goat Show in June,” said Wendy Antoa, Glide, Oregon. “She came from the Ludwigs Mohawk herd located east of Eugene/Springfield, Oregon. Lolita is her name. Both her dam, Natalya, and her sire, Figaro, have wattles on their necks. I have seen wattles on cheeks, necks, shoulders, etc., but this is a first for “ear bobs!”

You can band them if they really bother you, and they'll drop off.
