After a week of sheer hell the fire that has been raging here in our little town is finally getting under control. Many have lost their homes and everything. We thank God for all the prayers that were coming in and our little farm was spared. We are incredibly busy with helping our small town be put back together. Just wanted to say thank you to all that follow our facebook page as that's where we were posting our updates for our community and were sending prayers to our little town. Thanks again to all. Now its time to get back to the enjoyment of our little goaties and other four legged critters.

  • You are right the thought of trying to evacuate a whole farm is overwhelming. My first reaction was to kick on the irrigation and flood the hell out of everything even though its a serious drought in southern Oregon for 2 yrs now. I knew I could just open the gates for the horses and run them out. They will come back as this is what they know  is their security and  home. The goats and llama's and alpacas is more distance this time from the fire but not much more. Now that this has happened and its just about over a plan is already going into place. I have suggested to the community center to make sure they keep a list at all times of people willing to take the animals in and have a list of who has the horse trailers and how many they hold in each one and can respond at a moments notice. As for me it would take at least 4 large trailers to get them all out. We are getting the portable pens built. All leads and collars at the ready. Heck even for myself you are so freeked out and concerned about your farm animals all I thought for myself was suit case and a pair of bloomers. Pretty stupid huh. Everyone should think about all of this and prepare with a full idea of no one is left behind. I think we all react differently to hard core situations and I think even with a plan some things can go wrong BUT you will have a much better chance of getting every one out and have more than just bloomers for yourself. Everyone be safe.

  • So scary! Most of us never have to think about how we would evacuate our whole farm, but we really should have a plan. You never know when you might find yourself in that kind of situation. Glad you're all okay!

  • Thank you so much. This afternoon its 55 percent contained and now the toll is 35 structures gone. Seeing this thing in your own backyard has got to be the most terrifying thing ever. It should be finished Saturday. You sure learn a lot in this situation and the coolest thing is having this little community all pull together as one unit.
