I'm in the midst of waiting for several goats to kid who have been pen bred. It's frustrating and I'm beginning to suspect that one of them isn't bred at all. She has developed a slight udder, but she doesn't have the "table" look to her back so if she is pregnant she must be carrying one very small kid.
And yet even with the current frustration I suspect I'm going to think about pen breeding again this fall. I'll try to stop myself, but who knows. It seems so easy at the time. I know that some people who pen breed use specially made chest harnesses with chalk pucks in them on their bucks so that when the doe allows him to mount her she gets a big chalk mark on her rump.
My question is: has anyone used these and did they find them accurate?

She has to be due within the next week, as it's almost been 145 days since she was separated from the buck.
I had a doe kid last week (a singleton) that I didn't feel any movement on until 2 days before she kidded. At that point she had a head or butt obviously bulging from her side.
So how far along is she? Because I haven't been able to feel anything... and mine should be due in about 5 weeks.

I don't want to pen breed, but I suspect this fall is going to be a bit crazy so I was wondering about the chalk thing. My aunt used it successfully with her boers so I was just curious as to whether anyone else has tried it.
