Oh boy......

My cousin has two Saanen goats, a mother and her yearling doe, named Faith and Joy. Sweet names for some pretty demonic goats, that's what I think. She never did much training with them, so they jump all over you and headbutt a lot, all of which I wouldn't mind except for one thing- I may have to take them. For reasons unknown to me my formerly tomboy, country girl cousin has turned, well, GIRLY. Now she is going to school for nail designing, and no longer has time for her horse and goats. She was going to give the goats away for free, but since it would be close to Easter she thought someone would take them for food. So naturally, (and I'm still kicking myself for this) I offered to take them. I have more contacts at farms and such than she does, so I hopefuly would be able to find a good home for them if need be, but still....I'm going to have to keep two monsters in with my sweet, friendly little dwarves. I just hope I can give them better socialization and they will calm down a little in time. It's not quite final yet and everythings still up in the air, but I will probably wind up with them just because I feel bad for the goats and my cousin. Oh goody gumdrops! *heavy sarcasm*

  • My words of caution on this relate to your setup. I found when I got a LaMancha and put her in with the Nigerians, she managed to cause major chaos because what kept them in didn't work with her. Fences too short. Gates not so secure. Food containers more easily tipped over to spill food. She was sneaky and always looking for trouble and ultimately had to go.

  • Good luck!! A word from someone who has had larger goats with my teenies... Be ready/able to pen them separately!!  I had a Nubian that chased the crap out of my littles. I had to keep her chained because I didn't have another goat to keep her with. At least you have two of them so you could totally separate them if you have to. Hopefully you'll be able to find good homes for them, or they'll turn a new leaf and become worthy of their sweet names!! :)
