Nigerian dwarf goat lost her voice...

HI..we have a nigerian dwarf doe who had a cough for awhile and then about three months ago she lost her voice. She has no lumps or bumps anywhere, she's about five years old, doesn't seem sick at all. The cough went away and was replaced by the no voice, she just makes a croaking noise. Any one have any ideas of what this is and what can be done?

  • I don't have any ideas about what this is, but I have a doe like that.  She had a cough when I got her that she'd had for a while already, with no other signs of disease.  We dewormed her just in case it was lung worms, but she still coughs occasionally.  She also used to only make a very small, low bleat that sounded more like a croak, and only once in a while.  She's getting a bit louder now, but still low and quiet compared to the other does.  I've never found a reason for the cough or the hoarse voice.  I've had her now for 11 months, she bred easily on the first try and is due to kid in the next few weeks.  She's doing really well!  I hope this is reassuring for you if you end up without any explanation like I have.  If you do find a possible explanation, please share it. :)
