New Bottle Baby

Hello!  I am purchasing a wethered male 4 week old bottle baby.  I wondered if anyone had insight on what I can expect.  New goat owner here!  he's gonna be a pet and live mostly inside with my pig and dogs.  I've done research, but  wondered what kind of food/care I should expect.  At least initially.  I would also love a recommendation on where to get goat supplies.

Thanks in advance!

  • It's really a good idea to have at least two goats because they're herd animals. One goat can get themselves into a lot of trouble and can be pretty loud if they get lonely. The breeder will have some local suggestions for what to feed the baby, but don't use an all-species milk replacer. People can argue all day long on the merits of cows milk vs goat milk replacer, but ideally, you'll have access to fresh goat milk for him.

There are plenty of online sources of goat supplies -- Hoegger and Caprine Supply do goats exclusively. Jeffers and Premier One do all livestock supplies.
