More than bloat . . .Enterotoxemia

One of the members of one of the facebook goat groups has three goats in extreme distress.  The vet was able to get there in spite of a storm and it looks like they are going to be okay; thankfully she called.  It turns out they have Enterotoxemia which is contagious and deadly.  It might be a good idea to read about it since it starts with bloat.

  • I don't think so... it applies to fresh green grasses especially after rain. Shrubbery is always their preferred browse anyway, maybe because they subconsciously know they can bloat on grass.

    Thanks for sharing, Glenna!

This article states that feeding lush spring growth (grasses) is a precursor to bloat. I wonder if the shrubbery my goats eat (almost exclusively right now) carries the same risk? It's mostly honeysuckle and euonymous (burning bush) at this point.
