I'm looking for a nice milking doe or two to start my herd. I managed to find a couple of well bred bucklings for herd sires but I'm having a hard time finding does - especially anywhere close to our area! :( I'm definitely a bit limited on what I can spend with $150/doe being top end. However I wondered if anyone on here had any leads they could tell me about? We get to Denver, Co quite regularly so that are would be great as well. It seems like western Kansas just doesn't have Nigerian Dwarfs. That is why I decided to get a buck right off so I didn't have to drive 3 hours + to get my does bred. My husband and I have an 11 acre place in the country and I'm super excited about finally getting some livestock!! :)

  • I'm afraid your does are quite a ways out of my price range. I can't afford to spend more than $150 per doe like I mentioned in my original post. $300 and up isn't even something I could consider at this point, sorry.
  • It really varies.  If it's out of an average milker, I ask around $300.  If it's out of my Jobi does, it's a lot more.

  • Hi! I've found two does but haven't picked them up yet. I put a down payment on them so I'm not really looking much any more but would be interested to know what you ask for yours typically?
  • Have you found anything yet?  I have a 6 month old doeling - registered - out of good active milk lines that is available.   I am in East Central Kansas.  I use my girls for our family production (her mom produced 1.5 qts/day her first milking, that's pretty good for a first) of milk, butter, and cheese.

  • Thanks Michael! I've found a couple of does near Denver. It's a mother and daughter pair. I plan to be picking them up around the first of November. If I'd known about these sooner I may have been interested if I didn't have to drive all the way down to Dallas.
  • By the way, concerning Deb P....,

Debbie is selling (or has already sold) all her animals.

Please note: Debbie's herd - DebP - IS NOT, repeat..., IS NOT!!! the herd with Chlamydia. She has a very clean herd!!!!

  • Myra,

I mentioned the Dallas area before because I was looking at some nice goats at a breeder who is selling all the goats on the farm. There are some nice animals, probably still for sale, including a son of Baywatch and a former NDGA national champ junior doe. These animals are lovely and are only $150 each and a package deal would get them for less. There is one really big caveat though, which is why I was not able to have them; the herd has a problem with Chlamydia. Now that is not an issue if one removes several animals and treats them and does not reintroduce them to the herd, but if Chlamydia (as pink eye, or as an STD) gets going in the herd, the whole herd needs treatment. If you or anyone is interested I will provide details, but at this point, I would rather not disclose the herd. There are some really nice goats there though at rock bottom prices.

    Michael

  • Thanks for your offer! It's a little too far I'm afraid..

Hi Myra,  I might be a little too far for you up here in Montana, but I have a doe in milk that I could sell to you.  My bottom price is $250.  Tansy just had her first freshening 2 months ago and has a beautiful udder and gives 2-3 cups per milking.  She is 1/8 Nubian and can't be registered, but the nigerian side of her has Superior Genetics.  I actually have her listed at $300, but am willing to come down for you...  that would be my lowest priced doe.  I uploaded a photo of her udder.

Myra I don't  have any milkers for sale right now but will in early spring. We live 30 minutes north of Ft. Collins. If you don't find what you want let me know :)
